Welcome
Why hello there! I wasn't expecting you. Please, come in!You must be tired, coming all this way just to listen to what I have to say. Have a seat and listen to my story. A story about a man with a noble quest. A quest to become a Game Developer.
Who is Stijn Doyen?
My name is Stijn Doyen. I was born on the 19th of October 1992 in Ostend, a city at the sea of Belgium. I had a regular everyday normal life, playing a lot of video games throughout my youth. I literally spend my entire youth behind my computer playing games like Diablo, Half-Life and most of all Runescape, a game that I will keep in my heart until the end of my days.
Video games mean a lot to me since they were always there for me when I was lonely, bored or just wanted to have fun. I actually taught myself how to read English mostly by playing video games.
At the age of 18 I enrolled Digital Arts and Entertainment, a professional bachelor education at the University College PIH West-Flanders. Throughout this education I had to cope with a lot of tight deadlines, though assignments and sleepless nights. Nevertheless, I managed to keep myself motivated and kept giving everything I had to get to the point where I am standing today. I am proud to be one of the few that make it to the final year without getting stuck along the way. The main reason why I stayed motivated, was because becoming a game developer is my biggest dream, and nothing will stand In my of making this dream come through.
My hobbies are playing video games (mostly RPGs like Diablo, Fable, Divine Divinity, ...), programming (yeah, I actually do it for fun!), playing guitar, listening to music and going to concerts.
I am very passionate about my music: Punk Rock and Metal. I listen to music every moment I get the chance, it really helps me to get through the happy and sad moments in my life. That is the main reason why I have visited about 20 music festival in the past 5 years. I am also proud to say that I am one of the few people on this planet that still buys CD‘s. I want to keep the music industry alive so I go to concerts, festivals, buy CD‘s and t-shirts of my favorite bands. If you want to know what music I am listening to, feel free to check out my last.fm page!
I have the same opinion when it comes to games. With a steam account with over 150 games, and a closet filled with boxed games for both PC, WII, PlayStation 2 and Playstation 3, it is clear that I'm not a fan of piracy. If I see a game that I like, I am more than prepared to pay for it. Since the hours of work to get the money is only a fraction of the hours of fun I have playing the game, I'd say that's the best deal a man can do.
